Periventricular nodular heterotopia
Patients with periventricular nodular heterotopia are frequently characterized by focal, drug-resistant epilepsy, varying degrees of cognitive impairment, and extracerebral findings. Developmental delay and cognitive issues are more common in the pediatric population. It is a brain malformation of cortical development with abnormal clumping of grey matter along the ventricles, and clinical features depend on the amount of heterotopic tissue, the distribution of nodules, and extension to the overlying cortex.
