Dr. Abati works on neuromuscular diseases and headache disorders. She
completed a PhD Program in Translational Medicine of the University of
Milan in the Neural Stem Cell Lab of Ospedale Maggiore Policlinico (PI
Prof. Stefania Corti).
Dr. Elena Abati completed her Medical
Training at the University of Milan; she graduated in 2016, summa cum
laude, with a thesis titled "Generation and characterization of
oligodendrocytes from IPSC of patients with multiple system atrophy".
She specialized in neurology at the University of Milan in 2022, summa
cum laude, with a thesis titled "Evaluation of a combined gene therapy
and gene silencing technique for the treatment of Charcot-Marie-Tooth
type 2A”. She also worked as a research intern at the Herscot Center of
Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard University in 2015. In 2021, she
worked as a research fellow at the Nuffield Department of Clinical
Neurosciences of the University of Oxford, with a project aimed at the
characterisation of IPSC-derived pericytes from diabetic patients.
Dr.
Elena Abati specializes in the management and treatment of
neuromuscular and headache diseases. Her research interests focus on the
development of novel therapeutic approaches using neural stem cells,
2D- and 3D-IPSC-based models, gene therapy-based approaches, and
serum-based biomarker studies.
Since 2021, she has been a member
of the Management Group of the Scientific Panel for Neurosciences and
of the Coordinating Panel on Rare Neurological Diseases of the European
Academy of Neurology (EAN).
She has also been also Academic Senator at the University of Milan from 2021 to 2024.
