Professor Blok received his MD cum laude from the Erasmus MC in
Rotterdam, Netherlands in 1990. He was accepted for residency in
neurology in the UMC Utrecht, but because of an
interest in basic neuroscience, he moved to the UMC Groningen where he
worked as an assistant professor in the Department of Anatomy. He
completed his PhD cum laude on the central control of the urinary
bladder.
In order to regain clinical practice, he did residency in urology at
the UMC Amsterdam and McGill University in Montreal. From January to
October 2006, Dr. Blok was research fellow of the Canadian Institutes for Health
Research on female urology and stem cell research and was awarded a
staff position at the department of Urology of McGill University,
Montreal, Canada. Since November 2006 he has been staff urologist and
since June 2023 full professor in Functional Neuro-Urology at the
Erasmus MC.
He was director of the Erasmus Pelvic Care Center, medical coordinator of the urology department, consultant at the Rijndam Rehabilition center, and head of the functional urology subdivision. Among other positions, he is chair of the European Association of Urology Guidelines Committee for Neuro-Urology, founding board member of the International Neuro Urology Society, specialty editor of Frontiers in Urology and member of the editorial board of the Dutch Journal of Urology. He has published more than 150 peer reviewed publications.
