Dr. Steven Lewis is a graduate of Yale College of Yale University, received his medical education at Stanford University School of Medicine, and performed his neurology residency at the University of Chicago.
Dr. Lewis is the physician-in-chief of the Lehigh Valley Fleming Neuroscience Institute in Allentown, Pennsylvania, where he is also Endowed Chair of Neurology and Adjunct Professor of Neurology at Thomas Jefferson University. He is also the Regional Chief for the Lehigh Valley for the Farber Institute for Neuroscience of Jefferson Health.
He is the current President of the World Federation of Neurology (WFN), Chair of the WFN Education Committee, the Editor of World Neurology, and Associate Editor for Global Neurology for the Journal of the Neurological Sciences.
Dr. Lewis is an immediate Past-Director and Past Chair of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, and a past Chair of the Neurology Residency Review Committee of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). He is also the past Editor-in-Chief of Continuum: Lifelong Learning in Neurology, the official CME publication of the American Academy of Neurology.
In 2019, Dr. Lewis received the A.B. Baker Award for Lifetime Achievement in Neurologic Education from the American Academy of Neurology, and in 2023, he received the American Neurological Association Award for Excellence in Education.
He is the author or editor of several textbooks of neurology. His interests include general clinical neurology and global neurologic education.
Dr. Lewis became Senior Associate Editor of MedLink in charge of the Neurologic Manifestations of Systemic Disease in 2024. In 2025, he became Editor-in-Chief.
Dr. Lewis was elected secretary-general of the World Federation of Neurology (WFN) on October 25, 2022, becoming just the third American to hold the post since the WFN was formed in 1957. He is a director of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and served as Chair of the Board from January to June 2024. He received the AB Baker Award for Lifetime Achievement in Neurologic Education from the American Academy of Neurology (AAN) in 2019 and the American Neurological Association (ANA) Award for Excellence in Education in 2023.
In October 2025, the Council of Delegates of the WFN elected Dr. Lewis as its next President. He will begin his 4-year presidential term on January 1, 2026.
