Fluoxetine is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) indicated for treatment of major depression, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and bulimia nervosa. It is also used off-label for disorders such as anxiety and panic attacks, poststroke depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, and others. For treatment of depression, the aim is control of depression, although the full antidepressant effect may not be achieved until 4 weeks of treatment or longer.
