Headache & Pain
Although usually benign, headache can herald serious intracranial disease. Neuroimaging must be considered whenever secondary causes of headache are suspected. The “SNOOP-4” mnemonic provides a list of red flags that would suggest secondary headache and indicate a need for further evaluation, usually with neuroimaging. Neuroimaging should also be strongly considered in unusual primary headaches.

Primary stabbing headache is usually a benign self-limited primary headache disorder, consisting of sharp stabs of head pain. Most primary stabbing headache patients have very brief attacks (less than 3 seconds). Age, gender, and whether the headache is comorbid with migraine influence the frequency of primary stabbing headache. Primary stabbing headache patients don’t have accompanying autonomic symptoms.

Polyneuropathy is a functional and/or structural disturbance of peripheral nerves causing motor, sensory, or autonomic symptoms or signs. Polyneuropathies that do not have an identifiable cause are considered idiopathic.
