Nemaline myopathy with fiber-type disproportion (photomicrograph)

Most cases of nemaline myopathy are accompanied by muscle fiber-type disproportion, in which histochemical type I myofibers (light) are more numerous and uniformly smaller than those of type II. Some cases show apparently complete type I fiber predominance. (Myofibrillar ATPase preincubated at pH 10.2; x100) (Contributed by Dr. Susan Iannaccone.)
