Spinal muscular atrophy
Spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) is a neurodegenerative disorder primarily affecting the anterior horn cells. Signs of motor neuron disease such as muscle weakness, muscle atrophy, fasciculations, and reduced or absent deep tendon reflexes can be seen. There is a broad phenotypic spectrum of SMA ranging from more severely affected infants who are symptomatic at birth to ambulatory adults who develop proximal weakness late in life.
