Stiff-person syndrome is a rare disorder that causes continuous muscle contractions with spasms, abnormal postures, and progressive disability. It is often associated with other autoimmune signs and symptoms as well as nonspecific and organ-specific autoantibodies. The symptoms of stiff-person syndrome likely relate to cortical and spinal cord hyperexcitability secondary to reduction of GABA.

Epilepsy & Seizures
Seizure is defined as "a transient occurrence of signs and/or symptoms due to abnormal excessive or synchronous neuronal activity in the brain." First seizure (single or multiple events within 24 hours) represents a frequent presentation of new-onset seizures, accounting for up to a third of such presentations. However, the majority of these patients will not go on to have recurrent seizures, ie, epilepsy.

Extrapyramidal side effects are seen with all first-generation, and most second-generation, antipsychotic drugs. Acute akathisia and acute dystonic reactions are usually the first extrapyramidal side effects to develop, primarily shortly after initiation of an antipsychotic or a dose increase, and generally before parkinsonism develops. Acute dystonic reactions consistently resolve when the offending drug is stopped, but akathisia has a more complex prognosis.
