Generalized discharges with phantom absences in a child with Panayiotopoulos syndrome (video EEG)

This child with typical autonomic seizures of Panayiotopoulos syndrome had in his first EEG only brief generalized discharges up to 3 seconds. Clinically, on 2 to 3 occasions, during the discharges, he stopped breath counting “phantom absences” (annotated numbers) without any apparent motor manifestations. A subsequent EEG showed multifocal spikes (Used with permission from: Panayiotopoulos CP. Panayiotopoulos syndrome: a common and benign childhood epileptic syndrome.
