"Franklin and Electricity" (c. 1860)

A realistic interpretation of the 1752 experiment in Philadelphia in which Franklin demonstrated that lightning is a form of electricity. This Bureau of Engraving and Printing engraved vignette, "Franklin and Electricity" (c. 1860) by Alfred Jones, was used on the left obverse of the $10 National Bank Note from the 1860s to 1890s. The vignette appears on the $10 National Bank Note. This engraving was scanned from an original impression as part of a Treasury Department presentation album of portraits and vignettes (c. 1902).
