Eyelid myoclonia and absence seizures in a 9.5-year-old girl (video-EEG)

Video-EEG of a 9.5-year-old girl with an 8-month history of eyelid movements diagnosed as tics. When instructed to close her eyes, no electrical discharges were evoked during the eye blink (14:47:53). Her eyes closed (14:47:55) and, after a brief plateau, automatically opened and jerked concomitant with a generalized spike-and-wave discharge. On opening her eyes, her eyeballs turned upwards slightly. Her eyes closed again, as instructed. At 14:48:04, her eyes opened and jerked concomitant with a brief generalized discharge and a marked jerk of the upper part of her body. (Contributed by Athanasios Covanis MD PhD.)
