Patient is a 7-month-old infant with focal refractory epilepsy since the neonatal period emanating from region of perisylvian polymicrogyria; surgical resection abolished most seizures and rendered residual postoperative epilepsy pharmacologically controlled. Synaptophysin immunoreactivity shows synaptic short-circuitry between fused adjacent polymicrogyria. Other areas of less organized deeper polymicrogyria also exhibit synaptic continuity.
