Encephalopathy: EEG activity with mild intoxication
The EEG hallmark of acute encephalopathy is slowing of the background frequencies. The exception to the slowing, such as seen here, would be in cases of mild intoxication with a sedative-hypnotic, such as a barbiturate or benzodiazepine where an increased amount of beta activity is seen before any slowing is noted.
