Structure of the mushroom toxin orellanine in its amine-oxide tautomer form

This is the more stable form of orellanine, a dangerous mushroom toxin produced by Cortinarius spp. It can cause irreversible renal failure and death. People have ingested this species by mistake while intending to forage hallucinogenic psilocybin-containing mushrooms (Raff E, Halloran PF, Kjellstrand CM. Renal failure after eating "magic" mushrooms. CMAJ 1992;147(9):1339-41). (Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike 3.0 Unported license.)
