Acute motor axonal neuropathy (AMAN) is a variant of Guillain-Barré syndrome with predominant motor axon dysfunction or injury, and it is strongly associated with antecedent Campylobacter jejuni infection and the presence of anti-ganglioside antibodies. AMAN presents as an acute, flaccid, symmetrical ascending paralysis with increased cerebral spinal fluid protein, suggesting Guillain-Barré syndrome. Sensory impairment is minimal, and autonomic involvement less common.

Neurosyphilis is the occurrence of neurologic complications due to infection with Treponema pallidum. The spectrum of neurosyphilis is broad. The most common form of neurosyphilis currently diagnosed is asymptomatic neurosyphilis. Among the symptomatic disorders of neurosyphilis, the earliest manifestation is syphilitic meningitis, which typically occurs within the first 12 months of infection and may accompany features of secondary syphilis.

Horner syndrome is an eponym used to describe the clinical triad of ptosis, miosis, and anhidrosis caused by interruption of the ipsilateral first-, second-, or third-order sympathetic neurons to the head, eye, and neck. The hallmark of Horner syndrome is ptosis and miosis on the same side. When Horner syndrome is suspected, pharmacologic testing should be performed to confirm the diagnosis.
