Indications for rivastigmine include the symptomatic treatment of mild to moderately severe Alzheimer dementia and mild to moderate dementia related to Parkinson disease. Ongoing studies are examining the effect of rivastigmine in patients with severe Alzheimer disease. Rivastigmine is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to rivastigmine, other carbamate derivatives, or to any excipients used in the formulation. Another contraindication is severe liver impairment.
