Branch retinal vein occlusion (1)

This patient has several flame-shaped hemorrhages and cotton-wool spots in addition to an ischemic inner retinal layer in the superior temporal quadrant of his right eye. These are most commonly caused by emboli, which originate within upstream vessels where they dislodge and travel within the circulatory system until becoming vessel lodged downstream in a smaller vessel.
