Dandy-Walker syndrome is a congenital brain malformation involving the cerebellum and the fluid-filled spaces around it. The core features of Dandy-Walker syndrome are hypoplasia, elevation, and rotation of the cerebellar vermis and cyst-like dilatation of the fourth ventricle; posterior fossa enlargement and hydrocephalus are not invariably present. A considerable proportion of children with Dandy-Walker syndrome have learning problems.

Cervical spondylotic myelopathy presents with neck pain, upper and lower motor neuron dysfunction in the arms and hands, and upper motor neuron dysfunction in the legs. It primarily affects the intervertebral discs and facet joints. It typically affects patients over 40, and is caused by narrowing of the spinal canal by osteophytic spurring which leads to compression of the spinal cord and nerve roots.
