Ion channels and neurologic disorders
Ion channels are protein pores in the cell membrane that allow the passage of ions down their respective electrochemical gradients. Ion channels are essential for a wide range of cellular functions, including neuronal signaling, muscle contraction, sensory conduction, and endocrine secretions. Because ion channels are essential for a wide range of neural functions, their disturbance leads to several neurologic disorders.
