Elongated styloid processes in close proximity to the internal carotid arteries

CT angiography shows elongated styloid processes (arrows) in close proximity to the internal carotid arteries. A 26-year-old man presented to the emergency department because of a 5-day history of right-hand clumsiness and right arm and hand numbness. His symptoms developed suddenly while he was playing football. He had a prior history of episodic neck pain and pain around the ear. He underwent uneventful excision of the styloid process using a lateral approach with subsequent resolution of this frequent neck pain.
