Encephalopathy: slowing of background frequencies on EEG (3)

The EEG hallmark of acute encephalopathy is slowing of the background frequencies. The severity of the slowing correlates with the degree of impairment of attention. This EEG from an unresponsive (comatose) patient with severe encephalopathy is flat, indicating electrocerebral silence or inactivity (Contributed by Dr. Jeffrey Nicholl and Dr. David Gloss.)
