Severe papilledema features shown in fundus photographs

Severe papilledema is characterized by dome-shaped protrusion of the optic nerve and obliteration of the optic cup. Hemorrhages, exudates, choroidal folds, and optic nerve pallor may be present. (Contributed by Dr. Deborah Friedman.)
