Congenital toxoplasmosis (CT)

(A) The head CT scan in this newborn is markedly abnormal. There is a paucity of brain substance (microencephaly). Both lateral ventricles are enlarged. Calcifications are evident in the periventricular regions (arrowheads) and within the brain parenchyma (arrows). (B) At a slightly more superior cut, a region of encephalomalacia has produced a cyst (asterisk). Extensive cerebral calcification is evident. (Contributed by Dr. Daniel Bonthius.)
