The continuous line represents the dissociation curve of oxyhemoglobin in the blood of British physiologist Claude Gordon Douglas (1882-1963) and John Scott Haldane, determined in Oxford in the presence of 40 mm pressure of CO2 at 38°C. The determinations made on Pikes Peak at 38° are indicated as follows: blood of Douglas and Haldane, respectively, in the presence of 28 mm pressure of CO2 (open and closed circles); blood of Douglas and Haldane, respectively, in the presence of 41 mm pressure of CO2 (x and +).
