Central areolar choroidal dystrophy

This photo represents an advanced stage of central areolar choroidal dystrophy, which can vary widely in appearance depending on the stage of the disease process. Here the central posterior pole is heavily involved with the sclerotic choroidal vessels clearly visible. Early in the disease, acuities are likely to be normal and the choroidal atrophy is apparent only with fluorescein angiography. (Contributed by Dr. James Walters.)
