Lockout tongs or lockout scissors and a padlock used for locking out industrial equipment

By putting a padlock on the source of energy (electrical, hydraulic, or pneumatic pressure, or other energy source), workers may adjust or repair machinery with less likelihood of injury. Lockout scissors are often applied to the disconnecting switches for electric motor-driven machinery, for example. Multiple workers can each place a personal lock on the same set of scissors; the lockout device cannot be removed until all workers have removed their locks, signifying they are clear of the equipment.
