American neurologist Silas Weir Mitchell (1829 to 1914)

In the early 1880s, Mitchell developed a postural sway meter, which he employed in routine clinical practice. In the late 1880s, he also contributed to the development of a mechanism to graphically record postural sway and to Guy Hinsdale’s more sophisticated posturography apparatus.
