In longstanding cases of acromegaly, bony deformation affects the spine, causing upper dorsal kyphosis and compensatory accentuation of lumbar lordosis (Swayback). The thorax is also deformed due to a protuberance of the lower portion of the sternum and by elongation and divergence of the ribs. Source: Chanson and Salenave 2008.
