Poliomyelitis cases in Pakistan from January 2016 to July 2020

During 2019, 147 WPV1 cases were reported in Pakistan, more than 12 times the 12 reported cases during 2018. Since the detection of the first cVDPV2 case in July 2019 through September 15, 2020, 81 cases were reported. Abbreviations: cVDPV2 = circulating vaccine-derived poliovirus type 2; WPV1 = wild poliovirus type 1. cVDPVs are isolates for which there is evidence of person-to-person transmission in the community.
