American pathologist William G MacCallum (1874-1944)

From 1903 to 1908, MacCallum studied the effects of parathyroidectomy. In 1908, MacCallum and colleague Carl Voegtlin, both working at Johns Hopkins, demonstrated that tetany following parathyroidectomy was the result of the hypocalcemia.
